Flu season is here, and protecting your family’s health is more important than ever. At Kids First Pediatrics, we are committed to keeping children and families safe with preservative-free flu shots now available in our office.

           Why Get a Flu Shot?

The flu can cause serious illness, especially in young children. Getting a flu vaccine is the best way to reduce the risk of flu-related doctor visits, hospitalizations, and missed school or work days. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone 6 months and older receive a flu shot each year.

           Preservative-Free for Peace of Mind

Parents often ask about preservatives in vaccines. At Kids First, all of our flu shots are preservative-free, giving you confidence that your child is getting safe, effective protection.

           Convenience for Busy Families

We understand that families are juggling school, work, and activities. That’s why we’ve made flu vaccines as convenient as possible:

          No appointment is needed.

Walk in during our regular walk in hours and we’ll take care of the rest. As a reminder, walk in hours are 7AM-4PM Monday through Thursday and 7AM-1PM on Friday.

Whether you’re stopping by after school, on your lunch break, or while running errands, it’s easy to fit a flu shot into your schedule.

           Protecting the Whole Family

While our focus is pediatrics, flu shots protect not just the child but also those around them—siblings, parents, grandparents, and friends. Vaccination helps prevent the spread of flu in the community, keeping everyone healthier.

          Don’t Wait—Stay Protected This Season

The best time to get vaccinated is before flu season peaks. Walk in today and help your family stay protected all season long.

MEASLES?!?!?!

Measles.... We've all heard about the measles outbreak in progress... Here's more information on what to look for.

           What is Measles?

Measles is spread from the Rubeola virus. The rubeola virus is extremely contagious and 90% of unvaccinated people who are exposed to it will develop the infection. Infection is spread through droplets in the air and on surfaces. It can stay in the air for 2 HOURS after the infected person leaves the room.

           What is the incubation?

Measles symptoms develop 7-14 days after exposure to the virus and initially look like a typical viral respiratory infection.

           What are the symptoms?

Measles starts with a high fever, often to 104 degrees. Then the child develops a dry cough, runny nose, and red watery eyes. The characteristic rash from measles typically starts 2-4 days into the illness. The rash usually starts on the head but then spreads to the entire body.

           Is Measles dangerous?

Yes! Many with measles will develop a pneumonia or encephalitis. Encephalitis is swelling of the brain. It can lead to seizures, hearing loss, and permanent brain damage. Some die.

           Current outbreak?

The 2025 measles outbreak originated in Texas and has been spreading to the rest of the country. There have been 300 reported cases in Texas. Presently, we have not had any cases in TN. However, there have been cases in our neighboring states Kentucky and Georgia. If you or your child is not vaccinated, you are at risk. As vaccination rates drops, our babies too young to be vaccinated will be at risk.
